Frequently Asked Questions
No. ISCA certification is based solely upon your successful completion of the required ISCA coursework. Whether you’ve been coaching 8 & under or Olympians for 2 weeks or 20 years, knowledge of science as it directly applies to swimming WILL make you a better coach.
Any coach with a desire to learn the science of swimming and further their career can earn certification. Some college or an understanding of basic scientific principles is recommended.
Because there is such variation in the number of coaches on a team, ISCA does not publish a group rate. Please call or email if you are interested in a discounted group rate for registering multiple coaches from the same team.
No. Your access information may not be shared.
No, however you may earn certification or credit towards certification by attending the ISCA Coach Certification program at the annual ISCA conference. After certification is achieved, ISCA conference attendance may be used to meet continuing education unit (CEU) requirements to maintain certification.
Yes. Please contact email@example.com to request a refund if you are not satisfied with any course.
Yes. You may obtain an invoice by requesting it at firstname.lastname@example.org. You may also print a transaction receipt after your payment has been successfully processed at Checkout.
No. Only credit/debit cards or PayPal are accepted.
Absolutely! Please note the only way to receive the discounted rate for the full certification package is by purchasing the certification package. (If you buy all of the courses individually and earn certification, we cannot issue any discount.)
No. None of the required courses for ISCA certification may be substituted with CEUs or previously completed coursework of any kind.
Yes. However, you must complete all required coursework to earn certification.
No. You do not need a PayPal account to register and purchase a course online.

Yes. Your certification is valid for one year after completion. You may maintain your ISCA coach certification with 3 approved continued education units (CEUs) per year. Examples of approved CEUs are ISCA course credit hours, or annual conference attendance (3 CEUs).

If any of your personal information changes during the course of your participation you can change it! Once logged in to the Education Portal, just click “Update” and update your account information. Please make sure all of this information is accurate. (ISCA members: please note your Education Portal account is separate from your ISCA member account.)
The ISCA Coach Certification program focuses on the application of the latest science and technology to swimming. It is research based and, unlike ASCA, does not deal with the social and administrative aspects of running a swim team. Certification specifically designates a knowledge of the science of swimming.
No. There are short exams throughout the course modules.
You will have the option to retake the courses until a passing score is achieved.
ISCA credit hours for individual courses are $60.00 USD per hour. For example, a 3 hour course will cost $180. The certification package is offered at a reduced rate of $400 for 9 hours of required coursework (vs. $540 when purchased individually).
Complete the required courses: BM101, BM102, SP101, SP102, PH101, and PH102. Your transcript will be tracked on the ISCA Education Portal and we will automatically issue your certificate upon completion of the required coursework.

An understanding of the science behind swimming will better prepare you to prevent injuries in your swimmers and produce elite athletes. You will also be prepared to answer the “why” questions that athletes or parents may have.
